Drill of the Week

Drill of the week for July 6 to the 12th  -Red Devil 1 on 1

I like this drill because it has alot of moving parts and alot of good teaching points.  With the initial shot be sure to stress to your dmen to get the shot off the ice initially to avoid sticks and skates but it should be a shot that a fwd going to the net will have a chance to redirect.  Ensure the shot is at the near post so if the net is missed the puck is still playable and not a breakout for the opposition by rimming wide.

Stress to your dmen to shoulder check in the NZ prior to picking up the puck and make sure they are moving up ice (use an escape turn in open ice as well) before making the outlet to the fwds.  When closing gap, watch that the dmen do not pivot to the boards and open up the middle of the ice (there is always one).

For the fwds, work on hand eye tipping pucks, as well as explosiveness off the wall when receiving the outlet pass.  They can work on changing speeds in the NZ off the rush and puck protection when they engage in close range of the dmans stick and body.

Put your own spins on this drill.  I sometimes start the drill with F1 walking out of the corner for a shot (add in a fake to the pt and attack seam)

Enjoy!
